The Estate
Yes. The castle, gardens and wider estate provide a memorable setting for photography and filming. Please contact the Estate Office to discuss your plans.
The estate is managed with a long-term view. Forestry is gradually being converted to continuous cover woodland management, while farmland is transitioning towards organic regenerative farming. The castle itself is heated by a biomass system fuelled by timber from the estate.
While there are no lochs on the estate, the River Dee forms an important part of the landscape. The woodland gardens, parkland and walled garden are all open for guests to enjoy. The Warlock Stones and nearby Dess Falls are also within easily accessible on foot from the estate.
Guests are warmly encouraged to explore the gardens, parkland and wider estate during their stay.
Dogs are welcome provided they remain under close control and, ideally, on a lead. We ask owners to follow a simple "stick and flick" approach and to be mindful of livestock, wildlife and other visitors.
Under Scotland's right to roam legislation, members of the public have a right of responsible access across most land and inland water. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the estate while respecting those who live and work here, keeping dogs under control, taking litter home and following the principles of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
There are numerous estate tracks and paths which guests are welcome to explore. A variety of outdoor activities can also be arranged, including cycling, Highland games and off-road driving experiences.

The estate supports an abundance of wildlife, something that has become increasingly evident as farming practices have moved towards organic and regenerative methods. Roe and red deer are frequently seen, alongside badgers, rabbits, pine martens, red squirrels and foxes. Birds of prey including red kites, goshawks, buzzards and owls are regularly spotted, together with many smaller woodland and riverside birds. Some species remain elusive, although our motion cameras often reveal what happens after dark.
The estate extends to approximately 3,000 acres. Around half of the land is woodland, forestry and rough moorland, while the remainder comprises both in-hand and tenanted farmland.
Kincardine Castle was built by Mary Pickering in 1894 as a comfortable country house for entertaining and family life. Its construction came at a time when Queen Victoria had brought renewed interest to Royal Deeside, inspiring the building of many large houses throughout the area.

The Castle

Pets are not permitted inside the castle itself.
Yes, high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the castle.
Very much so. Kincardine has always been a family home and welcomes guests of all ages.
A ground-floor bedroom with a wheelchair-accessible shower is available, together with an accessible WC fitted with grab handles.
Guests enjoy exclusive use of the castle's reception rooms, open fires and gardens, together with high-speed Wi-Fi, housekeeping and butler service. Bedrooms offer ensuite or private bathrooms, with baths and showers throughout. The castle also provides conference facilities, a heated drying room, gun lockers, badminton and croquet. In-house catering is available, while the pizza oven, smoker and walk-in chiller support larger gatherings and celebrations.
The castle offers twelve guest bedrooms together with two additional bedrooms for staff or support teams.
The castle has remained in the same family since it was built. Its position above the River Dee offers uninterrupted views towards the Cairngorms, with no other houses visible from the castle itself. Guests enjoy the experience of staying in a house that remains very much a family home, while also benefiting from the comfort, service and hospitality of a private country house. There is often the opportunity to meet the family and hear more about the history of the castle and the life of the estate.
Kincardine Castle was built between 1894 and 1896 at a cost of approximately £12,000.
